Was invited last June 6 of 2013, along with a few other bloggers at Figaro Shangrila branch for an exclusive experience of tasting and relishing.
Before anything else, I would like to give you guys a short background about this famous Coffee company. Figaro all started from the creative minds of coffee lovers and enthusiasts who dreamt of a cafe where they could lounge and entertain friends. Eventually and slowly, all of these materialized to what we know now as Figaro Coffee Company. The first store was actually just a kiosk in Makati Mall of the Ayala Center. The Outlet retailed coffees, freshly ground coffee beans and the first to introduce flavored coffee beans in the country. The directors actually thought of the name Figaro to complete the feel and idea of ”Italian/European” concept.
I’m a self confessed food lover, specially pastries and pastas, so imagine my delight when I was asked to be one of the few to taste their new set of Delish treats set to grace almost all of Figaro stores this June 2013.
For me, the whole appearance of a food plays a big role in enticing one’s appetite. I am no expert or Chef, but basing from what I saw (which I hope my photos did justice to the food), were off to a good scrumptious start.
The first on the list was Basil Penne Insalata (P150). It’s a healthy mix of delicious sun dried tomatoes, black olives, feta cheese and Basil Pesto penne topped with square ham. Pesto is one of my recent favorites so definitely, this is a new addition to my list of doted on pasta recipes. I just love how all the ingredients compliment each other; specially how the sun dried tomatoes gave a twist to the flavor of the salad (yes, they consider this as a cold pasta salad, but it can be reheated if the customer wants to).
Tilapia en Papillote (P239).Tilapia fillet with lemon, capers and herbs.
This was the first one that caught my attention in terms of presentation. Now tell me, who wouldn’t be intrigued on what’s inside the wrapper? lol! Well, as the description dictates; an ample portion of Tilapia meat will surprise you; seasoned with herbs and topped with a slice of lemon to add a hint of tangy and freshness to the fillet.
Pancit Luglug (P155)
Filipinos,as we all know are fond of eating pancit, specially during Fiestas or birthdays because of the belief that it brings long life. Well, whether it’s just a theory or not, one thing is for sure: Pancit is undeniably Delicious!
For this particular one, Figaro made sure that it will cater all markets and ages. True enough, I felt like i’m in trance the moment I tasted it. Not that I’m a huge fan of pancit Malabon (which is closely related to this), but no one can really resist the savoriness of this special Filipino dish
What another interesting part of this plate is that it comes with this Caramel Mango Bar, a fit dessert after a scrumptious meal. I love how distinct the mango taste is since mango is my all time favorite fruit. It comes in a generous size that all of you will enjoy.
After 3 sets of meal, we feel the need to somehow wash off the taste from our tongue to prepare for my most awaited part of food tasting; THE SWEETS! But before that, let me also tell you my experience in having a quick sip of Heaven (LOL), I mean what is Figaro without their famous and high quality blend of coffees right? :)
Kape Indochine- Figaro’s Barako coffee traditionally brewed in Vietnamese style. Barako’s powerful flavour and pungent aroma mingled with condensed milk.
We were able to try both the hot and iced version. Personally, I prefer to have the hot Kape Indochine because it gives a lasting flavor and aroma to the taste, which is what I’m looking for in a coffee. The iced one is a tamer version and which I think is intended for younger age market who prefers to combine coffee and cold drinks in one.
And now comes my awaited part, the CAKES! Oh how long have I waited for this moment. I can’t keep my eyes off them while were eating the first part of the food tasting.
Tablea Blackout Cake (P115 per slice) *officially launched June 10, 2013.
This cake brings out the deeper level of chocolate flavor experience. The moist cake core is frosted with toasted earthly tablea pudding.
Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate.. I can’t stress enough how I love Chocolates. I just died figuratively when it was offered in front of us.
What I mostly adore about this one is that Figaro used Tablea bars, so it has that bitter sweet taste that is not too strong, it will leave you asking for more. I personally also like the soft and moist texture of the cake it self, and how the toasted chocolate pudding served as a core. Believe me, if you are a chocolate lover as much as I do and you happen to visit any Figaro branch, please have a taste of this piece of paradise and indulge!
The Blue Velvet Cake (P110 per slice)
It is a perfect twist to the traditional Red Velvet Cake that we all know and love, but this time with a delicious Blueberry Cream Cheese, used as a frosting to delight your sweet cravings.
I have to commend the people behind this creation in making this bold move. Figaro, is the first of it’s kind to introduce the Blue velvet cake. Knowing that the color blue is not as appealing as red when it comes to food color, Figaro added a different twist by adding Blueberry Cream Cheese as a frosting.
There is something in blue that I like, and seeing it in a cake gives me a desire to have a taste. The heaven feeling continues as I take every bite of it. If the Tablea Blackout Cake leads my list, the Blue Velvet Cake would undeniably be my second!
The following photos were not originally part of our menu, but Figaro was generous enough to let us try it :)
And I present you, Figaro’s Summer Fusion! A perfect treat to beat the Summer heat. It comes in four refreshing flavours namely: Lychee Cucumber, Four seasons, Mango Caramel, and Banana Choconut. All of them are mouth watering but my top pick would be the Four seasons.
Another pastry has been added to the list; the Oreo cheesecake cookies! It’s a really good partner for the summer fusion. The semi hard texture of the cookie compliments the cold and freshness of all the drinks.
With fellow food enthusiasts, bloggers, Chefs and the Marketing team of Figaro Coffee Company. I’m the one in black shirt and cap LOL! :)
It was like nothing I’ve ever tasted before. Everything we had was delectable! Thank you Figaro for having me.
